Application for Rheotherm and RheoVac Instruments

Multi-Variable Process Meter

For most industries, the desire is to increase production from existing facilities and achieve greater process throughput, better product quality, higher profitability and improved safety. To achieve these goals, accurate and reliable measurement of process fluids is critical.

In many industrial processes, process parameters such as temperature, pressure, density, or other process fluid properties may vary throughout operation. These variations may result in error and inaccuracy in flow measurement or other issues such as unsafe operating conditions, damage to equipment, loss of production efficiency, or reduced product quality.

Bionetics’ RHEODAPT Multi-Variable Process Meter is an extension to the Rheotherm Model 210 flow meter which can measure and adapt to varying process parameters to provide consistent and reliable flow measurement, previously only available with Coriolis style flow meters. RHEODAPT Instruments are designed to measure fluctuating process variables including:

  • fluid density
  • fluid component concentration
  • pressure
  • temperature

These measurements are used to provide a compensated flow output which ensures measurement accuracy across most operating conditions. The parameters are also available as outputs in addition to the compensated flow output.

The RHEODAPT Multi-Variable Process Meter is an ideal solution for applications where customers require real-time monitoring of these process parameters such as extraction (e.g., CBD oil) or high-pressure hydraulic applications. The additional sensors are integrated with the Rheotherm Model 210 flow sensor into a single instrument to achieve these measurements.

Rheodapt Density MeterRHEODAPT Multi-Variable Process Meters have a number of advantages over other flow measurement devices. They are more cost effective because they eliminate the need to install different instruments for the measurement of multiple process parameters including temperature, pressure and density. They also simplify installation by eliminating the need for multiple process connections and device output interfaces (all process parameters are transmitted over a single serial connection).

What Can We Measure?
Due to their ability to perform density compensation, the Bionetics RHEODAPT Multi-Variable Process Meter can measure the flow rate of most fluids including those that change in makeup over time (e.g., concentration of fluid components). They are constructed from high-grade stainless-steel wetted materials, resulting in a high degree of chemical compatibility. See our Applications pages for a complete list of fluids that can be measured by Rheotherm instruments.

Like all Rheotherm instruments, RHEODAPT Multi-Variable Process Meters are capable of measuring extremely low flow rates, as low as 10 cc/day, while providing accurate results. They are designed for high reliability, and require little or no regular maintenance to maintain calibration accuracy.

How Are They Installed?
RHEODAPT Multi-Variable Process meters incorporate in-line flow sensors typically installed with plain tube fittings suitable for compression fittings, but optionally available with flanges, sanitary fittings, etc. With some models the electronics are integral to the sensor. Other models have a separate electronics enclosure that can be installed up to 200 feet from the sensor. For hazardous environments, it is advisable to select an FM or ATEX/IECx approved intrinsically safe unit. For more information, see the Instruments for Hazardous Locations page.
